광주 황산마을에서 태어난 김문발은 칠석동에 부용정이라는 정자를 세웠습니다. 부용은 그의 호이며 주돈이 애련설에 나오는 연꽃 군자에서 유래했습니다. <br />

김문발은 부용정에서 여씨 형제의 남전향약과 주자의 백록동규악을 본받아 향약을 시행하며 지역민들의 회합과 풍속 교화에 힘썼습니다. 광주향약은 이에서 비롯되었고 부용정은 향약 시행을 위해 사람들이 모이는 장소로 활용되었습니다. <br />

부용정 옆에는 김문발이 심었다고 전해지는 느티나무가 800년을 살아오며 부용정과 함께 하고 있습니다. 부용정에는 고경명, 양응정 등의 명유들이 남긴 편액과 시가 남아있습니다. <br />
